10 Tips to Stay Motivated

It is sometimes hard to stay motivated, even when you really care about the work you’re doing. Here are 10 tips to help:

1) Have a routine
Routine makes you more efficient and prevents from feeling overwhelmed – make sure you include time for yourself and for life’s little “unexpected circumstances”.

2) Just do it!
Stop thinking about it and stop procrastinating - And do it! Make a list of the 3 to 5 most important things you have to do and start doing them right now. Make sure you cross out every item when completed.

3) Start with what you like least
Get rid of it first while you have energy and keep the fun stuff for desert – you’ll anticipate doing what you like most while taking care of what you wish you wouldn’t have to:)

4) Give yourself measurable goals
Goals are the wind beneath your wings. You can spread them out all you want; but with no wind you won’t go anywhere. So where do you want to go? What do you want to achieve this week? Break up long term goals into smaller goals and make sure something gets done toward your objectives this week, today.

5) Reward yourself and give yourself recognition
You did well? You attained your goal? You took action? Reward yourself! And don’t wait until the end of the week to do so, recognize your good work as soon as you complete it. Celebrate each milestone. You should cheer up for yourself every day and share it with your loved ones.

6) Keep a gratitude journal
At the end of each day, write at least 5 things you’re grateful for. Count your blessings and realize how lucky you are. Ending a day remembering the good things that happened is pretty great, don’t you think? And if the day did not quite go the way you wanted, you can always simply be grateful that it is finally over!

7) Equilibrium in your life
Are the 5 domains of your life well balanced? Family/Friends – Work/Finances – Health/Well Being – Soul/Creativity – Personal Accomplishments/Better Good. Having equilibrium cushions your life and prevents you from falling when something isn’t going the way you’d like to in one of them.

8) Connect, Adopt a positive vocabulary and avoid negative people
Connecting with people is the best way to get over discouragment and the best cure to get moving again. Connect with positive people and start using weak words for negative feelings and strong words for positive ones. Avoid negative people who leave you feeling tired and drained.

9) Share
Share your work, share your good advices, share what you learn, share what you earn. It will come back to you multiplied!

10) Never ignore the pink elephant in your living room
Finally, sometimes we just don’t want to acknowledge the obvious. If something doesn’t work, trying to make it better by doing the same thing over and over again won’t fix it. Either modify, add or stop doing it the way you’re doing it. Often times, big elephants only need to see a small mouse to go away!

Hope you'll have a great day. Take care,

Patricia
